Diversity impact assessment published

14. Nov 2024 - Publication

Diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities are core values of our society. Digitalisation can have both positive and negative effects on these values. With the help of our diversity impact assessment, we provide companies with a tool with which they can evaluate the impact of digitalisation processes on diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities and identify improvement measures.

Many companies have realised that diverse teams and an inclusive corporate culture not only contribute to employer attractiveness and higher employee loyalty and satisfaction, but are also essential for the competitiveness and innovative strength of companies.

With the guidelines published by the CDR Initiative, the authors provide field testes advice on how companies can identify potential opportunities and risks of digitalisation with regard to diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities at an early stage when developing new digital offerings and processes and implement appropriate improvement measures. The methodology can be applied to both new and existing offerings, processes and tools.

Voices on diversity impact assessment:

  • Portrait of Steffi Lemke

Inclusion and the appreciation of diversity are core values of our society. And companies that focus on this are economically more successful. I am therefore delighted that the BMUV's CDR Initiative has developed a practical guide to help assess the impact of digital offerings on different employees and customers. In this way, digital services can be better adapted to different needs.

Where different people work together, discrimination can always occur. So anyone who promotes diversity must also offer protection against discrimination. Diversity and anti-discrimination are two sides of the same coin. Protection against discrimination must also be considered from the outset when digitalising processes.

The diversity impact assessment is an important tool for shaping digitalisation in a socially responsible way. It places inclusion and equal opportunities at the centre and thus creates innovative solutions for everyone. It ensures digital accessibility that does not exclude anyone. We very much hope that many companies will use the method and actively involve the relevant target groups.

The examples of BARMER, ING Germany and the Otto Group, which are listed in our guide, show: Diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities can be realised - for the benefit of all!
