The CDR Initiative is growing: One of Germany's largest health insurance companies is now a member of the initiative for Corporate Digital Responsibility.
The health insurance company BARMER is a new member of the CDR Initiative. In the initiative, business, politics and science are working together to strengthen responsible behaviour in the digital transformation.
BARMER is part of the statutory health insurance funds in Germany and, with more than 13,000 employees and around nine million policyholders, is the second-largest health insurance company in Germany.
In 2019, the health insurance company launched an extensive programme called "Digital Ethics" to put its approach to digitalisation to the test: What role can AI play in the treatment of patients? How can digital data management and data protection go hand in hand? To answer these and other questions, BARMER has defined a set of values for its employees and cooperation with partners, which shows, among other things, that digitalisation should never be an end in itself, but must always be put at the service of people.

"As BARMER, we are addressing the digital issues of the future in the healthcare sector with a clear set of values. In this way, we ensure that digitalisation always serves people, even beyond legal requirements. Through our membership in the CDR Initiative, we want to expand our previous efforts and develop the basis for responsible digitalisation in the SHI system."
