"#DABEI" - Taking action against hate online

20. Sep 2021 - Deutsche Telekom
More and more areas of life are shifting towards the online sphere, and the digital space has long since become a reality of life. Digital participation therefore also means social participation. An initiative against hate on the net has been designed to allow everyone to benefit from the opportunities of digitalisation.

The digital space has long since become a reality of life. However, social participation and public discourse are endangered when people are forced to withdraw from social media because of the increasing threat of hate speech experienced there.

In the campaign #TAKEPART – No Hate Speech (or in German #DABEI), we encounter a young man who was not born in a male body. Jay is active on Instagram with the hope of encouraging people by telling his story. But again and again he becomes a target of hate on the internet. #TAKEPART– No Hate Speech was launched in mid-2020 and has since reached millions of users online. For Telekom, however, it is more than just a campaign. According to the company, the aim is to communicate a stance on hate speech: both inwardly and outwardly.

Consequently, Telekom has also launched several other activities against hate on the net. Here are just a few of them:

  • Cooperation with 44 partners. A selection can be found here: https://www.telekom.com/en/com...
  • Information and material to empower people of all ages to show moral courage online. Overview of all initiatives: https://www.medienabersicher.d...
  • Podcast series "Digital Crime – When words become weapons", published on the last Sunday of every month:
